It’s a little tricky to come across the first option, but with a few exotic ingredients and a food processor, the second can easily come true.
The now-closed restaurant, Curry Shop Shimizu, had one item on its menu, and it was - you guessed it - curry that tasted like human defecation. They also served it in a bowl that looked like a squat-style toilet to level it up and give it some realism because the curry did look a lot like something that should be flushed away.
The store was run by Ken Shimizu, one of Japan’s most legendary adult film actors. After being in the pornographic film industry for so long, he decided to open up a restaurant to expand people’s palate. Shimizu’s first job in the industry was to eat fecal matter, and since, he has eaten over 250 samples of stool, on top of sleeping with about 8,000 women. With his expertise in this flavor, Shimizu created a recipe that mimicked it perfectly.
The actor has described that poop is surprisingly bitter since it’s made up of waste and bile. He first boils vegetables and chicken to get rid of their tastiness, grounds them in a food processor, and adds senburi tea, an extremely bitter tea. Then, turmeric, cacao powder, bittern, minced fish guts, and fermented fish are added. The shop knew that no one wanted to eat it: Ken Shimizu made sure to run a survey before opening his business, and 85% of interviewed people said that they don’t support the idea.
Regardless, it was a success. Shimizu eventually closed the shop to get back into the adult video sector, but the shop was extremely popular due to its curious nature. The actual curry was surprisingly healthy, and customers would regularly return for laughs.
There was even a wall of Polaroid pictures of customers that were able to complete their meal, and these adventurous people were rewarded with a squirting penis sticker.
