Japan’s electromagnetic orchestra: ELECTRONICOS FANTASTICOS!
ELECTRONICOS FANTASTICOS!
Japan is known for many things, with just some of these things being their advanced technology, crazy music scene, and the nerd, "otaku" culture. ELECTRONICOS FANTASTICOS! combines all three of these elements into one, creating some of the geekiest orchestra sounds you have ever heard, along with the most bizarre-looking instruments.
Based around Japanese musician/artist Ei Wada, ELECTRONICOS FANTASTICOS! is a creative collective of roughly 70 members, active in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Hitachi. The project aims to give new life to electrical appliances, and transform them into electronic instruments, making them more and more of an orchestra with each step. They have modified old TVs, air conditioners, fans, phones, barcode readers, and much more along their journey.
Ei Wada was born in 1987 and has been into technology & music for as long as he can remember. When young, Ei believed that there will always be an ultimate music festival at a tower made of giant crab legs with tube TVs embedded into it waiting for him. One day, his friend broke the news to him that sadly no place like that on earth exists. So, he was left with no other option but to build it himself. Ever since 2009, he has been active in multiple avant-garde art/music groups & projects and has provided music for 11 Issey Miyake Paris collections. During his long technological-music voyage, he happened to meet his friend who told him his ideal festival location doesn't exist, who was marvelled at Ei still pursuing his obscure, yet fantasizing dreams.
