From Japan with Love: A SABUKARU Editorial for エドウィン
Many influential designers originate in the country of the rising sun, mostly this reputation has its roots in the attention to craftsmanship that the artisans of the country, notoriously have towards their products.
After the US, Japanese denim is highly valued by fashionistas everywhere. A brand that embodies these distinctive characteristics of Japanese workmanship, as well as, high-quality denim is EDWIN (エドウィン).
Founded out of a passion for jeans by K.K. Tsunemi in 1947, EDWIN first had to import American denim, until Japanese denim was developed and made available for the first time in 1961.
Ever since then Edwin has held the torch for Japanese crafted jeans.
For the EDWIN “Made in Japan” collection, their denim is exclusively sourced at world-famous Nihon Menpu and Kaihara denim mills. After they’ve crafted the fabrics from the Japanese selvage denim, the production process of sewing, washing and finishing touches are completed in EDWIN’s factory in Japan.
The ‘Made in Japan’ collection contains three styles of jeans, a denim jacket, a chino, a hoodie, a sweater, and one T-Shirt. Rather than going down the route of obscene and loud screaming prints, the collection is kept clean, simply showcasing the craftsmanship of EDWIN.
The SABUKARU team created an editorial for the Spring/Summer 2020 collection. Shot by Nicolas “Yuthanan” Chalmeau we celebrate EDWIN’s renowned approach towards the craft of Denim making, shooting on location in Tokyo we aimed to show the connection between the tradition of Japanese workmanship and the usage of Denim in modern city life.
The Made in Japan collection is now available in EDWIN Stores in London, Berlin, Paris, Milan and Tokyo and Osaka as well as select stockists around the World and online here.
