Godzilla, Evangelion, and now... Shin Ultraman

The iconic Hideaki Anno, creator of the Evangelion series, is back once again for a new "Shin" movie, teaming up once again with Shinji Higuchi, for Shin Ultraman.

In 2016, Anno and Higuchi shocked the world with their take on the Godzilla franchise, titled "Shin Godzilla". This was the introduction of the "Shin Series", Anno's remakes of some of his favorite "Tokusatsu" movies, which he has always loved since a child. Regarding the title "Shin", Anno has stated that "Shin" in Japanese means many things, from 新 [new], 真 [true], 神 [holy], and it is the perfect name.

After the release of Shin Godzilla in 2016, Anno released Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, also known as Shin Evangelion, which racked in over 10 billion yen, becoming one of the hottest movies of 2021. And now, the director & screenplay duo are back with another remake of the classic Ultraman.

Joint-produced by the legendary Tsuburaya Productions, Toho, and Studio Khara, the film is set to take place in a Japan where the country keeps getting invaded by S-Class Species, giant "kaiju", or alien/monster-like unidentified creatures.

The SSSP, or the S-Class Species Suppression Protocol is formed, but the threat to mankind only keeps getting bigger. Shortly after, the "Silver Giant" lands on earth, but is he a friend or a foe...

Whether you're originally a fan of the Ultraman series or not, this movie will for sure be a must-watch, as were the past two "Shin" movies. The movie is set to air on May 13 in Japan, so go watch it while you can.
