Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem

Nearly 3 years after Daft Punk’s legendary 2001 album Discovery, the French duo teamed up with one of Japan’s most celebrated manga and anime artists Leiji Matsumoto to work on an animated musical.

Serving as a visual companion to Daft Punks second studio album, the film features no dialogue and almost no sound effects at all, instead allowing Daft Punk’s tracks to take center stage and advance the main points of the story.

Originally debuted at the film festival Quinzaine des Realisateurs [part of Cannes film festival] in May 2003, the project is widely celebrated by critics and fans alike as it fuses both very fine anime visuals and superb more-than-just-soundtrack audio.

The film is considered a milestone in the music film genre.
