mucho.data: The Vintage Anime Connoisseur

mucho.data is a longtime collector of vintage anime, especially those in the long-forgotten format of LaserDisc.

In fact, the driving force behind starting his whole Instagram account was his affinity for the format alongside the desire to show the world the beauty of the LaserDisc format. Have a look through his profile and you can see an incredibly well-curated selection of vintage artwork from legendary animes ranging from Cowboy Bebop to JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.

Being a veteran collector of more than 20 years, mucho.data has collected multiple other formats like VHS and Betamax among other things but it was the large-sized and incredibly detailed cover art alongside the extras such as posters, phone cards, and calendars that usually came along with LaserDisc that made him instantly fell in love with the now obscure format. LaserDiscs require their own device in order to play them and were actually a rather advanced system back in the day, which he mentions that it gives an almost audiophile-esque feeling whenever he decides to play them.

His love for vintage anime is also really apparent, with his collection of LaserDiscs being almost exclusive to works from the 80s and 90s. This passion for vintage artworks comes from the fact that most anime from that time period are more well-made in terms of the amount of details when compared to more recent anime.

Aside from this, he also mentions a certain openness towards more controversial topics regarding sex and politics as being more prevalent in works from that time.

Acknowledging the importance of anime soundtracks to fully convey the emotions of a particular scene and adding another layer to trigger emotions and letting the viewer experience the story to the fullest degree, @mucho.data continues to share his collection to show the beauty of the format.
