Picture This: Cuba Nights By Daan Dam
Picture This is a series by creatives, photographers, friends and lovers that belong to the worldwide Biancissimo family. In every episode of this series, one of these talented people will take us on a visual journey of their own.
Daan Dam belongs to the list of my favourite street and documentary photographers, ever. The art of catching real emotions, real people & real freaks; the beauty of abnormal people and the ugliness of pretty people is something only a couple of photographers are able to do. Daan is catching all this beautiful filth and turning it into art. It's a shame that a younger generation of photographers and Instagram users totally misinterpret street photography. It is definitely not a picture taken of your new outfit in the middle of a street in London, New York or Berlin - but let's not dive too deep into that. I'd rather enjoy Daan's way of the ninja. For Biancissimo he will show us his very own vision of Cuba's street and nightlife, as real as it is. Please follow this guy on Instagram and also don't forget about his second project BERLINBEERGOGGLES
Picture This: Cuba Nights By Daan Dam
Hello, my name is Daan Dam, I'm a 25 year old photographer, and in September 2016 I went to Cuba.
I didn't know what to expect of the country when I went there, but it didn't take me long to fall in love. the people who say it feels fake
and touristy just took a right where they should have gone left.
or just suck at finding realness.
I myself prefer life at night and to my pleasant surprise Cubans like to hang out on the street until the early morning, young and old will sit on the stoops and sidewalks talking and drinking rum.
I immediately felt drawn to document their lives at night, far away from the tacky car photographs and Buena Vista Social Club cliches.
all the images in this series are taken in Havana, one of my favourite cities in the world.
(oh yeah rum was hella cheap too, I liked that)
