Taking Comic Art to New Grounds: The Art of GOODNEWSFORBADGUYS
The excusable phrase “oh, I don’t read” followed by an embarrassed giggle seems to be a recurring moment in conversations: being reminded of your microscopic amount of knowledge of literature, not being a bookworm always feels like an immature flaw. But, if reading novels isn’t your cup of tea, chances are comics are exactly in your lane.
The illustrator GOODNEWSFORBADGUYS is keen on this. Though we can’t actually talk about his preferences for books and whatnot, comics are certainly a home for this artist.
With his name on an array of projects, the world is warming up to this budding illustrator. Influenced by Koji Morimoto and Tatsuyuki Tanaka, cyber-noir, rave culture, psychedelic effects, and pop culture weld into a style unique to the artist. He talks about hypersexuality merging with “eco-sexuality” and creates pathways in the brain no one ever dared to explore through illustration.
Bodies morph into ecstasy and pure oblivion and exoskeletons detach at will: that is the fantasy world of GOODNEWSFORBADGUYS. He is a genius when it comes to colors, entirely taming contrast and negative spaces, as well as hypnotic monochromatic drawings. Futuristic meets normalcy and that’s what makes his art so intriguing because it suggests an impossible reality that still feels immensely familiar, like a casual hang-out in a parallel universe.
The illustrator has made a few comics independently and for magazines, and not only does the art completely propel this genre into a trip for the senses, but even the preview snippets are packed-full of adventure and thrill - GOODNEWSFORBADGUYS truly is the creme de la creme of indie comic illustrators. Reminiscing a contemporary version of Moebius, dreams and real-life overlap in the work of GOODNEWSFORBADGUYS. Graced by his imagination and his talent, this effervescent artist is one to keep an eye out for.
