The Very Best Like No One Ever Was – Ash Ketchum Finally Becomes the Pokémon World Champion
In 1997, a 10-year-old boy with a dream of becoming a Pokémon Master set off on a journey to Catch Em All, travelling the world, meeting new friends along the way, and battling and training not-so-pocket-sized pocket monsters. Now, over 25 years later, that dream has finally become a reality.
Ash Ketchum, the forever 10-year-old from Pallet Town and his electrified mouse companion, Pikachu, have created a legacy like no other in TV and video game history. Creating a cult-like following, millions of fans every day tune in to Pokémon in the hopes we can see the duo finally make it through their journey and become the ‘very best like no one ever was’. After notoriously being mocked due to the numerous occasions he has fell short, on November 11th, 2022, fans were finally gifted this moment of TV history.
In a contest titled the Pokémon World Coronation Series, the tournament brought together the very best of the world, such as fan favourites and previous champions like Cynthia and Lance. Ash makes his way through the tournament beating the competition, before finally, after a 4-episode-long galvanizing battle, he and his dream team of Pokémon curated from numerous generations would go on to beat Leon, the current World Champion.
The episode is a melting pot of fanservice that tugs on the heartstrings of lifelong fans. From seeing iconic old friends such as Misty and Brock to Pikachu getting cheers of encouragement from the previous Pokémon that have fought alongside him throughout all 25 series. The episode climaxes in a final showdown between two of the most iconic Pokémon in the franchise, Charizard and Pikachu, in one of the most cinematically impressive battles in the series.
The occasion has seen worldwide recognition, with people celebrating as if this was a real-life event to the point of it even being shown on the big screens at Shibuya crossing. But now that Ash has finally reached his goal, we’re unsure what lies next for the young World Champion. Whatever it is, we’re sure Team Rocket will somehow try and spoil the fun somewhere down the line.
