THE WAY OF THE JAPANESE BATH BY MARK EDWARD HARRIS

His first Onsen experience in Beppu, a town often shrouded in water vapour on the southern island of Kyushu, in the early 1990s converted Mark Edward Harris  into a “furo-holic” as he calls himself.

 
 

Furo which translates to bath is deeply woven into the Japanese culture.

 
 

For his book, Harris captured the natural beauty of Japan's onsen as well as the beauty of a culture enjoying one of its most time-honoured traditions.

 
 

Harris is a photographer whose assignments have taken him to over 100 countries.

 
 

His editorial work has appeared in publications such as Vanity Fair and The New York Times.

 
 

He is the recipient of numerous awards and has published several books.
