King of My Castle Meets The Ghost in the Shell: Wamdue Project

Ghost in the Shell is one of the most influential cyberpunk series known to mankind.

With the manga created by Masamune Shirow and the films directed by Mamoru Oshii, the franchise is one of the series that solidified anime's status to a wider audience in the west, alongside others like Katsuhiro Otomo's AKIRA.

In 1997, Wamdue Project, an alias of American electronic artist Chris Brann, released "King of My Castle", a later hit club song that peaked in the top 10 charts in 13 countries. The lyrics and title of the song refer to a theory by Sigmund Freud, which states that the human ego is controlled by its own unconscious, in German "das Ich ist nicht Herr im eigenen Hause" [the ego is not king of its own castle].

While the two topics revolve around anime and music, they both share the same psychologic concept of the mind and consciousness. So what other way is there than to release a music video with visuals from the legendary movie itself.

With both the anime and the song being years ahead of their respective times of release, the end result is a futuristic cyber experience that still is fresh to this day.
