Living a Virtual Fantasy: Yameii Online and Her Virtual World
Artists and musicians usually have some backstory focusing on their come-up, beginning, or inspirations. Some take inspiration from parents while others credit their environment for their rise.
However, Yameii, also known as Yameii Online, has one that dives deeper than most: it weaves dimensions, alien gods, and out-of-this-world powers into the story of one virtual artist. Through the efforts of Deko and Osean, Yameii and her fans are brought through a continuing story in their music and videos.
In the real world, Yameii is a Vocaloid or virtual musician, created from the minds of Deko and Osean: an artist and producer and a visual artist respectively. The duo has created an entire world for Yameii and her fans to explore, including a manga titled OseanWorld and an anime of the same name on Youtube, that captures Yameii and her friends’ crazy adventures.
Calling her music purely vocaloid style is a disservice to her unique sound and style that sees a combination of song and storytelling. Osean’s virtual art adds to the entire lore and to the appeal of Yameii, and devoted fans are happy to follow along. The experimental mix of cute vocaloid, hip-hop, and hyperpop is catchy; synths and trap beats combine with playful lyrics that reflect her carefree and ditzy attitude.
Collaborations with Deko see this combination of something that can only be described as “kawaii trap”: Yameii’s signature voice and style combined with Deko’s 808s and triplet flow.
Yameii, as a character, is hard to box into one form of media. Her overall presence transcends the simple confines of Spotify or Apple Music and can only be described as pure, virtual bliss. The lore intertwined with her music presents a dimension rarely observed. From the Space God to L, Yameii and her virtual friends are here to stay as they push the boundary of man-made art and virtual reality.
