Sabukaru Tokyo Cars - A Series by Sabukaru 006: Shinpi
#sabucars is a series featuring some of our favorite cars in Tokyo together with their owners. For the 6th edition of Tokyo Cars, we met up with DJ, Shizuoka BEATNIKS [@beatniks_quality] member & one of the youth figures of the Shizuoka prefecture, Shinpi [@shinpi2] to show us his vintage ride & share his love for it.
Roughly a 3 hour car ride from Tokyo, Shizuoka prefecture is one of the more rural prefectures of Japan, famous for things like Mt. Fuji, green tea, and it's beautiful nature. At the same time, it has a unique music & culture scene, different from that of Tokyo. Shinpi is one of the names in the youth culture leading the way for the generations to come, and keeping the prefecture's culture alive. Straight after a night camping in Shizuoka with his friends, he drove up by the Meguro river to give us some knowledge about his Pajero.
His 1996 Mitsubishi Pajero Midroof Wide Fieldmaster SUV carries 7 people, sports a diesel 4M40 engine, and is a cold-weather model. He just recently purchased his dream car in March of 2021, the same time that he finished his studies and started working. He wanted to enjoy a more spacious ride, where he could go many places with his girlfriend.
As to why he prefers vintage over new, he likes the slimmer front pillar which gives off a stylish look, and the fact that the windows are full skeleton was appealing to him. His main use for the car apart from just regular driving are going on drives and going camping, which is perfect for his Pajero.
Shinpi goes camping usually once or twice a month, with 2 of his friends, just like the night before he met us. Shizuoka is known for its countless camp spots, and the Pajero is the ideal ride for it.
All parts are stock, as he enjoys the vintage stock parts like many other vintage car owners. His favorite part about his car is that the stock audio system is a cassette player, allowing him to play his favorite cassettes he collects.
He wants to ride a Mitsubishi Delica Star Wagon in the future, but plans to ride his Pajero until its last breath.
