Sabukaru Tokyo Cars - A Series by Sabukaru 009: Naotaka Konno

#sabucars is a series featuring some of our favorite cars in Tokyo together with their owners. For the 9th edition of Tokyo Cars, we caught up with Naotaka Konno, founder & director of MAGIC STICK ENTERTAINMENT and eyewear brand NOCHINO OPTICAL, and share some love with us about his Mercedes-Benz GLE.

 
 

So far on #sabucars, we've showed you some of Tokyo's hottest vintage whips, owned by Tokyo's hottest people. While this edition also features one of Tokyo's hottest figures, Naotaka Konno, we're going to change things up a bit, focusing on his 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE350d. A rare focus on a rather new car, but Nao likes his cars like he likes his iPhones: the newest is the best.

 
 

Vintage cars are obviously cool in their own ways, but new cars are just as cool too, and much more reliable, especially when you're going to have kids riding. Purchased in 2020 after riding a BMW X4 for a while, Nao's Benz is the perfect car for going camping, commuting to his house in Yamanashi prefecture, and any family occasions. While Nao mentioned to us that he takes practicality over looks, his GLE looks about as fly as any family car can.

 
 

Some of you that have been to Tokyo might know the city's love for the iconic G-Class. Yes it is a nice car when properly ridden, but Nao went with the GLE because the G-Class is a bit too "Tokyo". And same with his previous all-white whip, the MAGIC STICK director says white is a bit too "Tokyo", and didn't fit in with the mountains.

 
 

His GLE today blends in perfectly with the city and nature, while standing out just the perfect amount. Nao has only made a few customizations to the vehicle, like the wheels, because he doesn't want to make it look fake. After all, the car is already a result of high-end German design, so you're not going to have to change anything for it to look good & do its job.

Nao continues to go camping with friends or family, and create waves with MAGIC STICK and NOCHINO OPTICAL, and his Benz is there with him anywhere he goes.
