Shyzzzi: Pixel Perfect Bloody Murder
Shyzzzi is the artist behind these jaw-dropping illustrations.
Combining all the tidbits of various subcultures that we love so much into one exceptional body of work, Shyzzzi delivers stunning digital art, mixing realism with a spectrum of impossible fantasies and traumatic nightmares.
At first glance, Shyzzzi’s art reminds us of the Serial Experiments Lain franchise, and that’s because of the atmospheric loneliness and the subtle naivety that the girls portray somberly. The influence of anime is undeniable and is confirmed just by looking at the subjects’ features and proportions, as well as stylistic choices that call back Ghost in the Shell and Perfect Blue, both iconic psychological tormenters.
Albeit the celebration of Japanese media is made clear, it goes way deeper than that. The illustrations are a string of snaps from an enigmatic storyline, following Alice [or Alise] Miyake, a teen on the run after a series of tragic events. The eerie solitude, this eager disregard for the other, all while neglecting any kind of saving: it’s a hot mess.
Skin-tight white panties, voyeurist perspectives, literal bloodbaths, and cop killers on the run put the cherry on top of the impenetrable universe of Shyzzzi. Ominous and tense, the illustrations are a mix of fetish art and melancholic 90s PlayStation adverts, just like a new generation of ero-guro.
Shyzzzi’s most applauded work might be his trilogy of short animated movies. Featuring Alice in a supernatural, cyberpunk horror setting, it plays between teen delinquency, melancholia, and paranormal apparitions. But Shyzzzi’s general mix of gore, sexuality, and thrill sends euphoric chills down spines and goosebumps in the best way possible.
