What if The Yakuza Came from a Galaxy Far Far Away?
As another day passes, another AI artist has caught our eye.
At the rate that these creators are producing outstanding and inspiring pieces of work, we feel like we could host our very own platform dedicated to Ai art. This time, we get a glimpse into two worlds colliding as creator @demonflyingfox combines the aesthetics and ambience of an 80’s Yakuza film with fan favourite western franchises. The result is a charming blend of imaginative creativity and ludicrous silliness that we can’t help but be fixated on.
The artist, using the well-known AI software MidJourney, develops stills that may look familiar to you. Why you may ask? Because all of these are inspired by well-known critically acclaimed franchises: Harry Potter, Star Wars, Pulp Fiction, and Breaking Bad all receive a Japanese makeover in the style of vintage Yakuza films.
Iconic characters such as Darth Vadar have been reincarnated as Shogun, Yoda as a wise old man, and Obi-Wan as a Samurai. These are just a few characters that receive the wonderful reimaging, transforming them into figures in a Takeshi Kitano flick.
With worldwide franchises being the muse, and 80’s Yakuza films being the canvas, what’s created isn’t just simply fan fiction that brings together both worlds. Instead, the outcome is something new entirely; a reimaging of the subjects, whereby two cells fuse and create one whole maintaining certain traits from one another but also developing its own unique ones.
It is easy to speculate just how much effort goes into these AI-created pieces, as it is seemingly on the surface just choosing references and seeing the results, but a series like this tells the real story of the creativity behind the artist. This is not simply putting reference words into a machine. Instead, it’s creating a completely new world entirely.
