Chloma: Geared Toward 2.5-D
@chlomagears is a Japanese fashion label, founded in 2009 by designers Junya Suzuki and Reiko Sakuma. The original brand was called JUNYA SUZUKI until 2011, when they decided to change their name to chloma.
Born 1984 in Yokohama, designer Junya Suzuki first got into clothing and fashion when he started to think of why 2-D characters have outlines, but humans don't. He believes fashion is an emotion that lies between physical objects and information, especially in today's generation. This lead him to blend the world of sci-fi that he likes, with clothing made of unique materials. Born 1987 in Yokohama as well, designer Reiko Sakuma was inspired by her ex-designer mother, and family which was deeply tied to architecture. She specializes in 3-D creations, and continues to explore the possibility of outlines and surfaces, and how to incorporate them into 3-D garments.
chloma creates clothing that are made for people of today's generation, who seamlessly wander between the real world and the world behind monitors. With the relationship between technology and humans, characters and humans, and the internet and humans in mind, chloma succeeds in fusing 2-D elements into real 3-D garments. You could say that the clothing they make is 2.5-D.
chloma's creations have a very virtual feel to them. From the unique cuts to the colors, to even the materials used, everything is very sci-fi and has a Y2K aesthetic to it. They even have a series of jackets and coats titled "Y2K".
But not only does chloma create clothing that gives off a futuristic feel, their presentation is also on another level. From their website to VR videos, and even virtual collections and exhibitions.
