Lu’u Dan First Official Collection: an Orphic Introduction

Lu’u Dan announced the release of their first collection this year.

Created by the designer and co-founder of Kwaidan Editions Hung La, this new menswear line takes its name from the colloquial version of “dangerous man” in Vietnamese, his mother tongue. The campaign was shot by Jimi Franklin.

Teaming up with an all-Asian crew to support the development of the project, Hung La dives deep into his roots as a first-generation Vietnamese-American and explores the richness of his background all while harmoniously tying his experience as an Asian man living in the West.

Rejecting past feelings of shame and disconnection to his origins, La creates a sultry, vibrant but punky and dark collection of menswear to introduce the vigorousness of Lu’u Dan.

Inspired by the fashion style of young Asian rebels, this first collection reminisces of bosozoku [Japanese biker gangs] clothes to the eclectic closet of characters from the movie Ichi the Killer, in a way to reconcile Western high fashion and the unapologetic vigor of the designer’s experiences.

There is so much beauty to my story, to your story, to all Asian stories. All of these stories need to be told in a meaningful way.
— Hung La

This collection will be exclusive to SSENSE, a Montreal-based fashion powerhouse.
