Tekken: Welcome to the King of Iron Fist Tournament

Tekken: Welcome to the King of Iron Fist Tournament

Introduced originally in 1994, Tekken is one of the biggest and most-played franchise of fighting games of all time.

The 3D fighter has been consistently produced and directed by Katsuhiro Harada, who in his own right has obtained some kind of cult status within the fighting game community. The story is centred around the King of Iron Fist Tournament hosted by the Mishima Zaibatsu [business conglomerate], in which the winner of the tournament will also be the one to control the company.

However, while the main story is quite simple, what makes Tekken so special and occasionally intimidating to new players especially is the sheer depth of the gameplay mechanics. The character King [who is a lucha-libre wrestler wearing a hyper-realistic jaguar mask], for example is noted for having 179 moves.

The characters are also a big part of what makes Tekken such a unique video game. Not only do they have their own unique fighting styles and methods to master but they also boast some of the coolest looking character designs. From the main characters of the storyline in Jin Kazama and the Mishima family all the way to Sabukaru-favourites Yoshimitsu [who is essentially a Robin Hood alien-ninja] along with the aforementioned King and the button-masher’s best friend Eddy Gordo. Recently they have also included characters from other video game and media franchises like Akuma from Street Fighter and even Negan from The Walking Dead.

The esports scene is also massive for Tekken with tournaments happening in different parts of the globe and major tournaments such as the Tekken World Tour and EVO being stages where some of the best players all over the world pit themselves against each other.
